A river of tears flows as ADLF explores the tragic romantic archetype—those adrift in a world of yearning, memories and unfulfilled desires. Sadgirls and sadboys, this one’s for you !
In his ADLF debut, Steve Cowan (« One of Canada’s top contemporary classical guitarists » —Classical Guitar Magazine) joins ADLF founder Mika Putterman (« An exemplary demonstration of the Romantic flute’s beauties » —WholeNote) in this intimate recital for flute and guitar, around the timeless themes of love, loss, and longing. Bound by centuries of shared history, these two instruments will guide you on a musical journey through time and genre.
From the mournful, introspection of John Dowland’s Renaissance airs to the achingly relatable vulnerability of Selena Gomez’s modern pop, the programme explores the notion of ‘contemporary’ heartbreak over the last 400 years. Carrying the weight of unspoken emotions and untold stories, PLEURE-MOI UNE RIVIÈRE evokes the persistent ache of unrequited love and the enduring nature of sorrow.
Carefully chosen to suit the repertoire, Cowan and Putterman will perform on a variety of special instruments (both historical and modern) from their extensive collections.
An exploration of the human condition, the programme transcends its historical boundaries, capturing the universal truth that love—whether fleeting or eternal—always leaves a mark.
